Search Washington County Court Records
Washington County uses two main online systems for court records. The county's C-Track Public Portal is the local portal for civil division records, estate records, marriage-license records from 1999 forward, and party-linked access to some case material. The statewide Pennsylvania UJS Case Search is the route for criminal Court of Common Pleas docket sheets, Magisterial District Court docket sheets, appellate records, citation records, complaint numbers, incident numbers, offense tracking numbers, and participant-name searches.
The county's case-docket page tells users to choose C-Track for civil and Orphans' Court case information and UJS for criminal case information. C-Track is also tied to the county's e-filing system, so public users may see a different level of access from a party, attorney, or subscriber. When a case does not appear online, the next step is not a third-party database. Use the correct filing office: the Prothonotary for civil and divorce records, the Clerk of Courts for criminal files, or the Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans' Court for probate, estate, guardianship, adoption, and marriage-license records.

Washington County Court Records Fields
The most useful search fields depend on the court system. UJS gives broad statewide search options and is the better starting point for criminal, citation, and Magisterial District Court docket sheets. Types of Washington County Court Records
Washington County court records come from several offices. Civil actions are filed in the Court of Common Pleas Civil Division through the Prothonotary. Criminal matters are maintained by the Clerk of Courts. Estate, guardianship, adoption, termination, and marriage-license petition matters run through Orphans' Court and the Register of Wills. Magisterial District Courts handle preliminary criminal proceedings, summary criminal cases, traffic citations, landlord-tenant cases, and smaller civil claims.
Family and divorce records are civil or family matters, but access is not always the same as an ordinary civil complaint. Washington County C-Track guidance says divorce and custody use FD after 2023, while older family cases may use CV. Protection from abuse and similar abuse-act records use AA and can be restricted. Marriage-license records from 1999 forward may be available through C-Track or public terminals, while pre-1999 records require historical access methods because the prior ERS system was disabled after a January 2024 security incident.

What Washington County Court Records Show
A court record is more than a name search result. It usually identifies the case number, court, division, parties, attorneys, filing date, status, and docket activity. Docket entries may show complaints, praecipes, motions, petitions, answers, certificates, orders, judgments, hearing notices, continuances, dispositions, sentencing entries, and appeals. Financial lines may include court costs, fines, restitution, bail, bond, judgment amounts, and filing fees when those fields are public for that case type.

Short terms can change the meaning of a court record. A plaintiff starts a civil lawsuit. A defendant is the person sued or accused. A docket is the chronological activity log. A disposition is the result of a case or charge. A praecipe is a filing that asks the clerk to enter or issue something. An order is a judge's written command.
Washington County Court Record Fees
Washington County gives free in-person terminal access for some records, but remote document access through C-Track may require payment. Parties linked to their own cases may have free access after account registration and linking. The county says link review can take one to two business days after a new C-Track account is created. Public users who need broad remote access may need a subscription, and ordinary counter payments at the Prothonotary are limited to cash or money order unless the payment is tied to e-filing.

The fee schedule does not mean every document is remotely public. C-Track remote public records are not free for general public document viewing, and confidential records may not appear at all. Orphans' Court case records are not remotely accessible to the general public in the same way as ordinary civil records.
Washington County Court Records Access
Public access to Washington County court records is governed by Pennsylvania court policy as much as county practice. The Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law applies to many state and local agency records, but court case records follow judicial access policies and court rules. That distinction matters when a person is looking for a docket sheet, case document, or criminal file.
The UJS Case Records Public Access Policy, effective January 1, 2022, controls public access to appellate and trial court case records and confidential information handling. County administrative records may go through county open-records channels, but a court file should start with the filing office or court portal. If a docket is public but a document is not visible online, the answer may be a terminal visit, fee, party-linked access, or restriction rather than an error.

Restricted Washington County Court Records
Some Washington County court records are not ordinary public lookup records. Juvenile cases, adoption and termination of parental rights matters, mental health commitments, protected-party records, abuse-act matters, sealed cases, expunged cases, and records with personal identifiers can be limited or suppressed. C-Track guidance says confidential cases and cases subject to AOPC public-access limits may not be viewed remotely over the internet.
Criminal expungement and limited access require care. For criminal files, start with the Clerk of Courts because that office processes expungements and maintains criminal case files. Pa.R.Crim.P. 790 governs court-case expungement procedure. Limited access under 18 Pa.C.S. Section 9122.1 is different from expungement because it shields qualifying criminal-history information from many public uses but does not always destroy every record. Eligibility depends on the case, charge, result, and statute.
